FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Bas Fisher Invitational, in partnership with the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA, North Miami) and the Women's Fund of Miami-Dade County presents MOD 11: Discourses with Incarcerated Girls, an exhibition featuring work by local artists inspired by their experiences instructing teen girls at the Miami-Dade County Juvenile Detention Center through MOCA's Women on the Rise! outreach program. MOCA works with these young women through a partnership with the Girls Advocacy Project's Miami chapter.

MOD 11 will feature works by Susan Lee Chun, Rosemarie Chiarlone, Nerieda Garcia Ferraz, Naomi Fisher, GisMo (Jessica Gispert & Crystal Molinary), Ali Prosch, Isabel Moros-Rigau and Kathleen Staples. The exhibition is curated by Jillian Hernandez, creator of Women on the Rise! and Ph.D. student in Women's & Gender Studies at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. The exhibition takes its title, MOD 11, from the name of one of the girls' cellblocks at the Detention Center.

MOD 11 is made possible with support from the Women's Fund of Miami-Dade County, Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami, Miami Design District, Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, Cultural Affairs Council, the Mayor, and Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners.
