About

The Bas Fisher Invitational is a new artist run alternative art space, located in the Buena Vista Building in Miami's Design District. It was founded in July 2004 by artists Hernan Bas and Naomi Fisher in the wake of losing their favorite alternative art space "the House" to Miami's rapid gentrification. Their premise is to simply invite artists who they are inspired by to publicly showcase their work, exposing additional exciting voices to Miami's growing art scene.

Hernan Bas' poignant narrative renderings of boys on the cusp of love, pathos, and discovery have been featured internationally in solo shows at the Victoria Miro Gallery, London; Daniel Reich Gallery, New York; Sandroni Rey Gallery, Los Angeles, the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami; and the Moore Space, Miami. He was featured in the 2003 Whitney Biennial and will be included in the Triumph of Painting III at the Saatchi Gallery in London in the Spring of 2006.

Naomi Fisher's intense photographs of women interacting with wild tropical nature and lurid expressionistic drawings have been show internationally at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City; Lombard-Freid Fine Arts, New York; Galerie Francesca Kaufmann, Milan, Italy; Deitch Projects, New York; Palais de Tokyo, Paris; the Miami Art Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami; the Moore Space, Miami; and has an upcoming solo show at Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin, Paris in December of 2005.

Both Bas and Fisher are represented locally by the Fredric Snitzer Gallery.
